Styled Wedding Shoot in Daytona, FL with Seth and Clementine
I recently finished a styled wedding shoot in Daytona, FL with Seth and Clementine. I do style shoots every once in a while to enhance my skills and practice new techniques. I love playing around with locations, lighting, editing, poses, and more! Seth and Clementine were generous enough to allow me to photograph them earlier this year.
Have fun exploring the gallery!
What is a Styled Wedding Shoot?
A styled wedding shoot is designed to showcase the talents of wedding photographers, experiment with new trends, and provide visual inspiration for future brides and grooms. Although it’s not real engagement or wedding photos, you can get an idea of a photographer’s style from a styled shoot. Doing them regularly allows me to develop my skills as a photographer to better serve couples on their wedding day.
Meet Seth and Clementine
Seth and Clementine are the sweetest couple. They aren’t engaged (yet!) but agreed to help me with this styled wedding shoot. They were a lot of fun to work with and were willing to try all my ideas. They were already comfortable in front of the camera, so I gave them some direction and just snapped away! We got a lot of candid photos of the couple, which always turn out the best!
Preparing for the Styled Wedding Shoot
I requested certain outfits for the shoot. I asked Clementine to wear a white dress and heels and to bring a veil. She delivered, didn’t she?! For Seth, I asked for a simple suit with a white shirt underneath. We didn’t do any outfit changes this time, but I allow couples to have 1-2 outfit changes during our engagement photo session.
I provided some props, like roses, sunglasses, cake, champagne, and champagne flutes. Props are a great way to add variation to photos. You can tell some of their personalities came out when there were props involved, too, so I always suggest couples bring a few things like that to an engagement shoot.
The Location
I chose the Hawaii Motel as our location. It’s a vintage motel in Daytona, FL, and has tons of cute spots for photos. We took some out front, and I was able to use a room for a few hours to get some shots inside.
Daytona is a great place for a destination wedding. There are several beautiful venues in Daytona that give you beach or city vibes - your choice! Since moving to New Smyrna Beach, Daytona has become one of my favorite places for weddings and engagement shoots. There is a lot of diversity in the photos we can take!
The Shoot
I was going for a classic, vintage vibe for this styled wedding shoot. It’s apparent in the outfits, location, and editing choices I made.
My photography style is documentary - I aim to capture genuine, candid moments as they naturally unfold. This style prioritizes authenticity and unposed shots, which you can see in these photos. I emphasize real emotions and interactions with a little direction to help couples feel comfortable in front of the camera.
